David Beckham‘s fans will say there’s only one David. And for a good reason: The passion and effort he poured into his football career helped shape the reputation of a soccer legend, a cultural icon. He’s also a successful businessman, a philanthropist, and a family man. There can’t be more than one David, right? Well, wrong… Born in London, Beckham is the son of Sandra West and Ted Beckham and has two sisters. Oh… and he has a secret twin whose existence was revealed just recently over a pint of Stella Artois.
Led by the Artists Equity agency, the moment of truth is part of the brewer’s Super Bowl LIX ad. Dubbed “The Big News,” the 30-second ad sees Beckham meeting his parents over a cold one. But little does David know that they are not sharing just a glass of beer but also some important family secrets.
“You have a twin brother we never told you about,” explains the 49-year-old athlete’s father while the mom apologizes for keeping the other brother a secret. As the action progresses, David learns that his twin was left in America and that he “always knew there was something missing.” But the big reveal doesn’t stop here as the Man Utd’s legend discovers the twin’s name: The Other David, because you know, “If there’s two Davids one has to be Other David.”
His parents then slid two pictures of the Davids but can’t agree on who is who. With no clear answers to questions related to the secret sibling, the athlete embarks on a new adventure to find out #WhoisOtherDavid. Both Beckham and the public will witness the big reveal during the Big Game.
In a statement addressed to Entertainment Weekly, Beckham said: “This new campaign for Stella Artois has a great idea at its heart which I think fans everywhere will really enjoy. It was a great atmosphere on set and we had a lot of fun making it. I hope people have as much fun speculating about what will happen next!”
The world-famous soccer player was enlisted as an official ambassador for the “A Taste Worth More” campaign, which champions Stella Artois’ unique flavor and priceless times with friends. The AB InBev brand’s Super Bowl commercial comes after a six-year break, when the brand reached out to Sarah Jessica Parker and Jeff Bridges for the “Change Up The Usual” ad.
