Present in more than 190 countries and with over 300 million paid subscribers globally, Netflix’s streaming platform is expected to deliver “the best version of everything,” said Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, referring to TV series, films, and games. In keeping with this statement is Netflix’s carousel-like teaser highlighting the widely anticipated titles that are set to be released this year.
Created by Wieden+Kennedy Portland and directed by MEGAFORCE via production company ICONOCLAST, the “Next on Netflix” brand campaign teases the audience, making them question if they are prepared for what’s ahead. At the center of the campaign is a film titled “You’re Not Ready,” suggesting that what’s about to come will definitely surprise the public.
The video tells the amazing experiences a lady attending an obviously boring corporate meeting unknowingly unlocks upon scrolling Netflix on her mobile. She discreetly plans to watch “Stranger Things” under the table, but the streaming platform’s “tu-dum” iconic sound gives her away, attracting not only everyone’s attention but also some Netflix characters’.
The room’s settings suddenly change, and a very angry Demogorgon emerges from one of the walls, attacking the protagonist. With a clear reference to the “Stranger Things” series, the scenario changes as the creature hits her, sending her to yet another dangerous scenario where she has to play for her life in “Squid Game.” She then travels to other Netlifx worlds, switching between “Wednesday,” “Emily in Paris,” “Cobra Kai,” “The Witcher” and so much more. In total, there are references for 26 series, specials, and movies.
“We’re celebrating our biggest slate ever with our most ambitious brand campaign yet. We wanted to create something truly special. Instead of a traditional sizzle reel, this campaign helps fans experience the feeling they get while watching Netflix,” explained Marian Lee, CMO of Netflix, via LinkedIn. “This film reinvents the ‘teaser’ and I love the easter eggs hidden into it — see how many you can find. And be on the lookout for a lot more sneak peeks dropping on social and NextOnNetflix.com all week,” she continued.
We admit: We haven’t managed to identify all the references in this teaser. How many can you recognize?
